Low Testosterone Treatment

Low testosterone can be treated with testosterone replacement therapy in the form of gels, patches, injections, and oral tablets.

Gels: A gel that contains testosterone and is absorbed directly through the skin.  This gel is typically applied once daily or as the physician recommends.
Patches: A medicated patch that contains testosterone and is absorbed directly through the skin. This patch is typically applied once a day to the upper arms, abdomen or thighs.
Injections: Testosterone that is directly injected into the muscles or implanted as pellets into the soft tissues.  The body slowly absorbs the testosterone over time into the blood stream.
Oral Tablets: A tablet that sticks to the upper gums.  It is typically applied twice a day and constantly releases testosterone to the body through the oral tissue.

Before administering any low testosterone treatments please consult with a physician on the side effects and if you are a good candidate for testosterone replacement therapy.

Low Testosterone Prevention

Low Testosterone Prevention

Causes of low testosterone may include disorders affecting the glands that produce or control testosterone, damage to the cells of the testes, type 2 diabetes, obesity or genetic disorders. Low testosterone may also result in medication side effects.

Some studies suggest that smoking, obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes may increase the risk of low testosterone levels in older males. Therefore, healthy diet and exercise may help reduce the risk of low testosterone linked to the above health risks. Low testosterone may also result from untreated medical conditions or medications side effects so work with your doctor to resolve other health issues that may be causing symptoms.
